What would you think of another blogger who you exchanged links with, only to discover after a few weeks that he has redirected all of his traffic from the site you initially linked with to a new porn blog he has authored without letting you know? This person had quite a few blog links on the original site, and I assume that many of those blog owners are unaware that they now have a reciprocal link that redirects to XXX content. Of course this situation is more aggravating if you object to the content of another site, but I'm not here to debate censorship, morality, or sexual inclinations. The issue here is a breach of trust, and misrepresentation where someone can silently corrupt the integrity of your site links, and direct them to content that in no way reflects the content of your own blog. On the other side of the coin my Technorati links now indicate that this new porn blog has a link to my site. I'm hoping this is a temporary situation once Technorati updates its links. One conclusion I've reached is that the original site was cynically created to collect traffic, and links as a "proxy" blog to provide a ready made traffic base for the newer porn blog. This brings up the question of how can you block another site from linking to your blog? One lesson here for all web site owners is to regularly check the integrity of your links, and use some discretion as to who you exchange links with. On the other hand, there are probably much worse situations we can encounter on the web, so I won't stay on the soap box too long. Safe surfing everyone.

It is a dog eat dog world, even in the blogspere! In my younger days I would have crashed the site with some DOS scheme but today, most likely, I would just kill the link...
could it have been hijacked?
I think you should name the culprit and expose him for what he did. You would only help others who have been duped or perhaps prevent a few new victims.

Good point miss ann thrope. It did cross my mind that his blog may have been hijacked. However, when I went to his original site address the initial blog had been deconstructed, and there was a referral link to the new porn blog address. I suppose his original blog could have been hacked into, and a redirect link inserted, or perhaps someone obtained his username, and password thereby gaining unauthorized access to the blog. If one of these scenarios did occur you would expect prompt recognition of the situation by the blog owner with quick removal of the redirect link. If it turns out that this individual has been the unlikely victim of blog hacking, then I owe him an apology. In any case, we need to check our blog links regularly.
Unfortunately prying1 I only have a first name for this person, but you have given me an idea. Both of his blogs are on blogspot.com, and I should contact Blogger to inform them of the situation. They may close his account, and delete the blogs unless there is some unlikely scenario where his original blog was hacked etc.
I've been lucky so far (knock on wood), no malicious links or comments on my site yet.

I'd definitely report it to Blogger. Being new to this, I don't have to worry about anyone linking to me, lol, but this is something to keep in mind.

This is exactly why "ad blogs" and many exchange programs (including Blog Explosion's "Rent My Blog") are the scourage of blogging. The sooner these fall away, the better blogging will be!
I'll never understand these tactics. Ultimately the offender gains nothing but meaningingless hits as it would be unlikely that any regular to this blog would find the xxx link of any interest or ever intentionally return to that site.

These silly tactics to build up links are difficult to understand as you said paul monaco. I wonder if this potential con artist was trying to collect links to and from his blog in order to increase the page ranking. Perhaps the original blogs page ranking could then be transferred to the new sex blog?

For the most part gina it's not a big deal, but I really don't want blogs linking to me that have extreme "questionable" content. At the same time I don't like being put in the role of a content censor either. On the other hand, I have linked to other blogs without asking their permission, and I shouldn't assume that those blogs appreciate my sites content either. It's a thorny issue all around.
